If somebody tries to tell you that your pimples are from not washing your face, don’t believe it. Dirt is not a cause of a poor complexion. In fact, too much washing will only aggravate your acne and make it look worse. Your behavior did not cause your acne. A poor complexion is actually caused by a complex process that you probably inherited from your parents. If your mom and dad suffered from acne, they might be the source of the problem. Thank them. They might have given you the genes for a poor complexion.
What really causes zits? To find out, we have to look beneath the surface of your skin. You have tiny hair follicles that cover your face, shoulders, back and neck, each of which contains sebaceous glands. A thick, oily substance called sebum is produced by these glands. Blackheads and whiteheads form when sebum, which usually flows out of our pores to coat our hair and skin, gets stuck inside, backs up, and swells the follicle. When these blackheads and whiteheads get infected by a skin bacteria called P.acnes, they can turn into red pimples.
Right, so sebum gets trapped inside the pores, but what is it that’s blocking the pores in the first place? The answer is dead skin cells from within the hair follicle. Being dead skin cells is not the problem since we are constantly shedding dead skin cells every minute of the day. It’s how we shed these dead skin cells that’s the real problem. We don’t usually notice them at all because they come off one a a time. But if they “slough off” in sticky sheets instead of one at a time, we’ve got a problem. The pores at the top of the hair follicles get stopped up with these sticky masses of skin cells. The process is not well understood, but what causes this improper shedding of skin cells is ultimately androgen hormones. These hormones spike during puberty and gradually fall off for the rest of our lives. We can say that what causes pimples is, ultimately, androgen hormones and how our bodies deal with these androgen hormones.
Since hormone imbalance is the root cause of pimples many people experience acne when their hormones are out of control during adolescence, pregnancy, menopause, and when they are under stress. So don’t worry about your dirty skin. If you have zits it’s not because you’re not as clean as other people, blame your hormones. All pimple treatments are not created equal. If you ignore your hormones, you probably won’t be successful with your acne treatments. One treatment to look at is the Acne No More download, which works by controlling your hormones through diet.
